I was thinking about my next article to write and I did what any stoner writer would do, I smoked. It took some pondering and a little bit of pacing back and forth until I finally figured out what I wanted to write about. I started thinking what it means to be stoner, and I quickly thought of 5 different classifications.

The Executive

This type of stoner is probably the most productive member of society in the group. They go to their 9-5 jobs, have solid retirement planning, andtake a trip to somewhere tropical once a year. Only in the comfort of their own home (or garage), are they free to indulge in their favorite past time.

Their job title and job security allow them to indulge in the devils lettuce whenever they desire. You would never notice one on the streets because they keep a low profile. They secretly feel scared for their lives when they go to their dealers’ house, unless of course they are a super-executive, in which case they have it delivered. The best part about being an executive stoner is that you always have the most chronic bud since you are the highest on the tax bracket.

Anyway you cut it, this is definitely the safest path you can be on. The major downfall is that getting caught can prove to be a huge embarrassment to someone that oversees a boardroom meeting. A stressful work life can be perfectly complimented by a little bit of ganja.

Stoner index rating: 3/5

The Over the Top

The over the top stoner can be seen in many different places and come in different shapes and sizes. There are two different categories of “over the top” stoners.

First you have the ghetto fabulous version. You’ll know exactly what I’m talking about if you go to any party in a big city or college campus. These are the same cats that talk about how many blunts they smoke or have story and story about how many times they’ve been to jail. Key things to look for when trying to spot one would be:

Neck tattoos

Shirts with pot leafs on them

Blood-red eyes at 3 in the afternoon

A blunt stick behind their ear coupled with shorts that are actually capris

A small white guy being swallow by his 3x t-shirt smoking a blunt

The second type is the hippie/tree hugger/college dropout hipster type. Whether they are blown-out trying to smoke the drawstring on their hemp pullover, or explaining their philosophy on why pesticides are bad for the environment, they can be spotted from a mile away. Look for tie-dye, cut off shorts and dreadlocks when trying to spot one. If you see one at a party your best bet is to move away quickly because you will if marijuana actually causes brain damage.

Stoner Index: 4/5

The Going Nowhere Fast (or slow)

Everyone has a buddy from high school that just never really had any ambition. Whether you kept hanging out with them or not, they always will be the going nowhere fast stoner. They are still doing the same thing they did 10-20 years ago except for the 7 hours a day they used to spend at school are now being spent on basic cable television.

Don’t count on this stoner to have your back or be your wingman when you go out to the bar or club. They will be your best bud until you quit buying their drinks or refuse to smoke your entire stash with them. Favors will never be returned and seem to always become forgotten thoughts.

There is always hope that deep down they are going to one day call you up with a fat bag to smoke. It soon becomes apparent that it’s only a pipe dream you realize as time goes on. In rare cases they have their own place in which case you are subject to an empty fridge with no munchies and neighbors that sound like they are reenacting an episode of cops they just watched.

Stoner Index: 2/5

The Throwback

Nothing is better than having a smoke session with someone who has done it all. They might not be in tune with the latest music and probably don’t have a Facebook, but they’ve got more stories than you could even imagine. It can be a rare honor and privilege to be enlightened by one of these stoners.

Normally someone with no weed would usually be a douche. This is the rare occurrence when you actually want to smoke them down for free. Stories of the good ol’ days when you could get away with anything usually comes up, or sometimes you’ll get to hear about how badass and cheap hotrods used to be.

Throwbacks have put their time in and deserve to be rewarded with copious amounts of weed. Don’t bother telling them what strand of bud you are smoking because they won’t remember anyways. I think the old adage that with age comes wisdom really reigns true in this situation.

Stoner Index: 5/5

The Hybrid

This is a fairly new type of stoner. Not because they’ve just been discovered, but because they finally have a name. Hybrids are bits and pieces from all the other categories. They may be a young stoner who hasn’t quite landed in a category, or perhaps the rare case of a throwback mixed with a over a top.

Techniques for spotting a hybrid are still in the infant stages. Scientist are working around the clock to learn more about these rare creatures. Hybrids are growing rapidly and its projected that they could become the biggest group stoners by 2050. What little we know is that Denver and San Antonio appear to be hot spots for Hybrids.

Hybrids we thought to have migrated from Canada and parts of Europe. One thing that is certain is that they aren’t a threat to other 4 classes. Embracing all types of stoners is something that everyone should remember. Even though each type has their flaws, we are all hail the leaf.

Stoner Index: ?/5

Family Guy: This show is a staple for potheads everywhere. While some people draw the line and either chooses South Park or Family Guy, I found that getting the best of both worlds is the way to go. Seth Mcfarland has tailor-made this show for stoners worldwide. There are so many different stations that syndicate episodes that you are almost guaranteed that you can get your fix for the day. The highlight episode is “420” which was an episode completely dedicated to stoners. Peter’s brain is like a pot smokers paradise. You know when he has a flash back or idea that it’s going to be hysterical. I would be willing to bet that this show has the highest percentage of stoner views over any other show on television.

Ninja Warrior: Turn this show on after a quick toke and you will be glued to your television set. The Japanese always seem to find a way to catch my interest when I am high. One of the best parts about the show is that every time I watch Ninja Warrior I feel like I could complete the course and make it to the finals. If I were thinking straight I would realize that there is no chance of that happening. This show is sure to get your blood pumping and make you want to go out and do something active. The last bonus is the terrible overdubbing on the interviews, which is sure to give you a couple of chuckles.

Trailer Park Boys: This show may be unknown to some but it has to be one of the funniest shows ever made. Combine that with all of the satire involving getting high and you have yourself the perfect show to toke up and watch. On one hand you have Julian who is the so-called “master mind” with all of his crazy ideas that never seem to work. On the other hand you have his sidekick Ricky who may be one of the funniest characters of any show ever! The best part about watching this stoned is that even though you know that their plans to get rich quick will spoil, you still have that urge to want to root for them to succeed. The show is from Canada and you best means of watching it would be either ordering it from Amazon or streaming it on Netflix (they have every episode).

Price is Right: This is one show that may be a surprise to some. Allow me to elaborate and you will see why it deserves to be on the list. First of all it’s kind of a hands on show where you at home get to play along. Nothing is better than having a day off and then having a nice wake n bake Price is Right session. Another thing that makes this show awesome is that some of the people that get on the show are complete tools. Drew Carey has surprisingly filled the void quite well and lays down some fairly decent humor. The show has a great pace and is always a great stoned experience. The showcase has to be the best part because you always feel like if it was you that you could dominate. In any case if you don’t believe me, try it yourself and you will see why this show is one of the greatest stoner shows of all time.

This show is basically a sketch comedy show that is sure to blow your mind. If you have a twisted since of humor then this show is for you. If you don’t, but like to get stoned, this show is still for you. I’ve never really seen a show that encourages me to smoke more than this one does. My favorite part of the show is when they have infomercials for their Cinco products such as the Pasta Bear, which is essentially a microwavable teddy bear filled with pasta. This show will seriously make you wonder if you are high or if the people making the show are completely insane. Do yourself a favor and check this out on Adult Swim on the Cartoon Network.

After Half Baked came out; Dave Chappelle propelled himself into stoner stardom. Once Chappelle Show hit the scene, stoners everywhere were laughing uncontrollably with every episode. Who can forget the classic Charlie Murphy and Rick James episodes? The greatest part about the show besides the fact that it was hilarious is that it has stood the test of time and is still one of the funniest shows ever made. Any fans of the show know that it ended abruptly but that may be a good thing because they didn’t try to make it until there was nothing left. I can bet you that you can find most if not all episodes on DVD for really cheap.

South Park: Ever since its inception, South Park has been a staple for stoners all over North America. The fact that they aren’t afraid to tackle anything makes for some good raunchy stoner humor. No stone goes unturned and the viewer is always put in a position to sit back and see how foolish things we deal with every day can be. Sometimes I sit in front of my television wondering if the show is going to get pulled off the air due to the crude humor. That wonder and comedic value is what keeps me coming back for more. The last thing that is awesome is that Stan’s dad Randy is a stoner in one of the episodes titled “Medical Fried Chicken”, which is definitely a must for the stoned population.

How its Made

How it’s Made: The concept for this show is quite simple, yet so intriguing. How many times have you walked into a friend’s house and they are on cloud 9 watching How it’s Made? I can tell you from personal experience that it’s happened many times over. While it is interesting to see how something is crafted, the stoned side of me always wonders what life is like for the people that are actually making the stuff. You never get to hear them talk, and rarely get a smile out of them. For instance, what if the guy that weaves the baseball gloves together is actually a serial killer? Or what if the guy painting the birdhouses is actually a world-class chess player? These are the questions I ponder when watching this show. The educational part is also quite nice as well.

The Science Channel

The Science Channel: Watching the Science Channel is something that stoners are naturally drawn into. I can’t recall a time that I actually planned on watching the channel. What usually happens is that you are scrolling through the guide and all of the sudden there is a special on how stars were formed. If you watch it in HD you will soon realize that you haven’t blinked in 15 minutes. This channel also has one of the smartest people alive by name of Michio Kaku. This guy can explain things to you and make them seem like its elementary. Kaku should brand his own Marijuana products and would probably make millions from all the stoners that recognize him from The Science Channel.

#1…

Cops

Cops: The ultimate show to watch when you are stoned has to be Cops. While this may be a shocker to some, it has to be the unanimous choice. It’s one of the only reality television shows honest and true to life. Plus you get to see junkies, prostitutes, hillbillies and many other fine people in their natural environment. One of the best parts is when someone gets pulled over, and you know they are carrying something illegal yet they deny it every time. This leads to them getting slammed to the ground where they explain how the stuff magically appeared in their car. Finally the best part about it is that you get to see what it’s like to get busted as a reminder to of what not to do. It’s the perfect combination of education, reality, and entertainment.

We’re now excited to teach you how to make Marijuana Cooking Oil from start to finish. You can use this Oil to make almost any types of food. Since most food requires oil, your possibilities are endless! Anything from pancakes and brownies to chicken fettuccine can be used with this marijuana oil. As a bonus, we’re also showing you how to create brownies with the Oil you just created. Let’s get started…

Step 1: What you need:

Gather your ingredients and utensils. Make sure you have at least 3 hours committed to your decision to make cannaoil. The process takes patience and time in order to achieve great results. You’ll need vegetable oil, medium size sauce pan, spatula/spoon, grinder, nylons, container for final oil, and of course, some medical marijuana.

Notes: If possible, use a strong grinder like a Magic Bullet. Also, if you don’t have nylons, you can use regular coffee filters.

Step 2: The Basics:

The math is pretty simple; just keep in mind that for every 1 gram of marijuana, you will ADD 1 ounce of vegetable oil. This makes the average level potency of the Oil equal to the amount called for in all recipes.

Notes: Decide on the amount of oil you want to make. Unlike butter, oil will stay good for a long time and doesn’t have to be stored in a refrigerator. It’s best to make batches of Oil big so that it lasts a few months. If you try this ratio and aren’t satisfied, up the amount of marijuana used.

Step 3: Grind and Combine:

Grind your Marijuana. Try to get it to as fine of a powder that you can. Using a coffee grinder will definitely do the best job. Next, combine your powdered marijuana with your pre-measured oil. In this example, we’ve mixed 28 grams of marijuana with 28 ounces of vegetable Oil.

Notes: Optional step: to start the process of oil and THC bonding, set aside the oil and marijuana mixture and let it sit overnight. The reason we heat the oil later on is for the heat to act as a catalyst in the bonding. Heat is not technically needed from my experiences with a no-bake method. By letting it sit overnight, you are jumpstarting the bonding of the oil and THC which helps cut off excessive cooking time for the oil.

Step 4: Add to Sauce Pan:

Now it’s time to add the mixed marijuana and vegetable Oil into a medium sized Sauce Pan. Be sure to get all of it into the pan to keep from wasting any Oil.

Begin heating your oil mixture on a low setting. You want to achieve a below-boil point to avoid losing THC in evaporation. It might take a while to find that exact heat setting, but once it’s steady, you can leave it alone for the duration of cooking. Stir occasionally (every 15 minutes or so). Let it cook for 2 hours on low heat.

Step 6: Time to Strain:

Now it’s time to Strain. This process gets a little messy if you want every drop of the oil you just made. Begin with securing the nylons around the top of the container you want to use for your oil.

Now that it’s securely attached, it’s time to filter the Oil.

From here, simply scoop the cooked oil into the filter with a measuring cup.

Remove the Nylon filter.

After all of the oil has filtered, squeeze the rest out left in the nylon tube of marijuana.

Step 7: You’re Done!!

That’s it, you’re done!! Now you have some perfectly good and medically beneficial oil to use in a variety of recipes!

We have added some cool new features to our blog. The first one is Retweet. Have a twitter? Like the post? Click on the retweet button and it automatically spreads the word and link to all of your twitter friends. That’s not it though! We also have a “Listen Now” button that reads the entire blog for you. It’s pretty cool so give it a try!

If you haven’t already clicked on the “Listen Now” button, please do so now. Here’s an interesting article from psychologytoday.com written by Dr. Benedict-Mason…

The Addictive Personality

A major misconception involving addiction is the idea that certain substances are, all by themselves, addicting. That a drug can captivate an unwary victim is an idea popularized in the 1936 film Reefer Madness. In that movie, it took just a few puffs of marijuana to turn a gentleman into a slobbering dope fiend; his health shattered; his life ruined. While such heavy-handed propaganda might be met with less credulity today, the fact remains that most Americans still believe the basic message – Just Say No or you’ll wind up hooked. What makes this truly odd is that, according to numerous national surveys, most Americans have tried marijuana and didn’t become dope fiends. Indeed, several years ago, a group of US congressmen attempted to come forward, admit their prior pot use and put an end to a draconian system that confiscates property and puts people in prison for years. But the electorate clearly wasn’t ready for any such reappraisal of the drug laws and the movement quickly died.

But how is it, you ask, that all those congressmen that were candid about their drug use didn’t get hooked Reefer Madness style? The reason is because addiction depends, first and foremost, upon having an addictive personality. Such people, estimated at perhaps 10%-15% of the population, simply don’t know when to stop. Do you enjoy a glass or two of wine with dinner? If so, why not have ten or twenty? Did you ever buy a lottery ticket on your birthday? If so, why not sell your house and buy 100,000? How about going to church on Sunday? Does it make you feel good? If so, why not go every day twice a day? The point here is simple: Too much of a good thing can be bad. And yet people with addictive personalities will get hooked on alcohol and gambling and religion. Believe it or not, being addicted is nothing more than an out-of-control habit. The difference between that 10%-15% and everyone else is the difference between using and abusing.

During the Vietnam War, drug use was endemic among troops serving in Southeast Asia. And yet, returning veterans suffered addiction rates that were no higher than those found in the general population. It would be difficult to think of a more perfectly designed experiment to show, once and for all, that dependence is mostly a matter of personality. And yet, when it comes to winning hearts and minds, the War in Vietnam was as nothing when compared to the War on Drugs. Although this second battle has completely failed in reducing illegal drug use, it has succeeded brilliantly in convincing Americans that they need to be saved from themselves. It’s a belief that was sold so well that hardly anyone noticed that Drug Czar Bill Bennett was an addictive personality hooked on both food and gambling.

Look At It This Way
The problem with the War on Drugs is that it creates far more harm than it eliminates. If drugs can’t be kept out of prisons, how can you possibly keep them out of a mostly free society? The “War” won’t go away because by now it’s become a major industry. It creates jobs on one side of the law and provides the opportunity for huge financial rewards on the other. But, like Prohibition before, making a law that can’t be enforced does little more than erode the public’s respect for the law. When alcohol was illegal, the upper classes had theirs imported while the common folk drank it from bathtubs. No one so inclined went without. And nothing has changed. Bush turned (supposedly) from drugs and alcohol to religion, thus substituting one addiction for another. Clinton told us, with a straight face, that he never inhaled. So here’s a simple question: Would either of these gentlemen be better off today if they had been sentenced to long prison terms? If so, why not provide them with a belated opportunity to serve time? If not, then why should the kid down the street be put away for doing the same thing?

Asking such simple questions should make it plain to anyone with any common sense that the truth regarding drugs and addiction is concealed behind so many layers of ignorance and emotion, deception and special interests that it will remain a major problem for a long time to come.

Many people assume that marijuana was made illegal through some kind of process involving scientific, medical, and government hearings; that it was to protect the citizens from what was determined to be a dangerous drug.

The actual story shows a much different picture. Those who voted on the legal fate of this plant never had the facts, but were dependent on information supplied by those who had a specific agenda to deceive lawmakers. You’ll see below that the very first federal vote to prohibit marijuana was based entirely on a documented lie on the floor of the Senate.

The Beginning

For most of human history, marijuana has been completely legal. It’s not a recently discovered plant, nor is it a long-standing law. Marijuana has been illegal for less than 1% of the time that it’s been in use. Its known uses go back further than 7,000 B.C. and it was legal as recently as when Ronald Reagan was a boy.

The marijuana (hemp) plant, of course, has an incredible number of uses. The earliest known woven fabric was apparently of hemp, and over the centuries the plant was used for food, incense, cloth, rope, and much more. This adds to some of the confusion over its introduction in the United States, as the plant was well known from the early 1600′s, but did not reach public awareness as a recreational drug until the early 1900′s.

America’s first marijuana law was enacted at Jamestown Colony, Virginia in 1619. It was a law “ordering” all farmers to grow Indian hempseed. There were several other “must grow” laws over the next 200 years (you could be jailed for not growing hemp during times of shortage in Virginia between 1763 and 1767), and during most of that time, hemp was legal tender (you could even pay your taxes with hemp — try that today!) Hemp was such a critical crop for a number of purposes (including essential war requirements – rope, etc.) that the government went out of its way to encourage growth.

The United States Census of 1850 counted 8,327 hemp “plantations” (minimum 2,000-acre farm) growing cannabis hemp for cloth, canvas and even the cordage used for baling cotton.

Don’t really believe it yet? Here’s some proof:

Above, Hemp for Victory, a 13-minute film produced by the US government in the 1940s which urged citizens to grow hemp during the war. During this earlier era of American crisis, farmers and 4-H clubs were encouraged to cultivate industrial hemp, the non-intoxicating cousin of what I like to call cannabis gettabis stonerus.

If you cannot already tell, this a huge propaganda film.

So what happened? Why is it illegal??

Once the 1930s rolled around, and the prohibition of alcohol had failed tremendously, there was a feeling of defeat in most prohibitionists’ minds. One of the jaded prohibitionists, Harry J. Anslinger, quickly found himself at the forefront of yet another prohibition movement in the United States. During the latter years of alcohol prohibition, many Southwestern states were pushing for a law against marijuana as a means to persecute the Mexican immigrants who offered cheap labor during the Depression.

In response to the public’s outcry for action, the Federal Bureau of Narcotics (FBN) was founded in 1930 as an agency of the United States Department of Treasury. Secretary of the Treasury, Andrew Mellon, felt his nephew-in-law, Harry J. Anslinger, was the perfect candidate for the job of FBN commissioner. While Anslinger was upset over the failure of the prohibition of alcohol, the cries for action against marijuana enabled Anslinger to focus his attention on a new scapegoat substance: Marijuana.

Harry J. Anslinger

Anslinger was an extremely ambitious man, and he recognized the Bureau of Narcotics as an amazing career opportunity — a new government agency with the opportunity to define both the problem and the solution. He immediately realized that opiates and cocaine wouldn’t be enough to help build his agency, so he latched on to marijuana and started to work on making it illegal at the federal level.

Anslinger immediately drew upon the themes of racism and violence to draw national attention to the problem he wanted to create. He also promoted and frequently read from “Gore Files” — wild reefer-madness-style exploitation tales of ax murderers on marijuana and sex and… Negroes. Here are some quotes that have been widely attributed to Anslinger and his Gore Files:

“There are 100,000 total marijuana smokers in the US, and most are Negroes, Hispanics, Filipinos, and entertainers. Their Satanic music, jazz, and swing, result from marijuana use. This marijuana causes white women to seek sexual relations with Negroes, entertainers, and any others.”

“…the primary reason to outlaw marijuana is its effect on the degenerate races.”

“Marijuana is an addictive drug which produces in its users insanity, criminality, and death.”

“Reefer makes darkies think they’re as good as white men.”

“Marihuana leads to pacifism and communist brainwashing”

“You smoke a joint and you’re likely to kill your brother.”

“Marijuana is the most violence-causing drug in the history of mankind.”

Yellow Journalism

Harry Anslinger got some additional help from William Randolf Hearst, owner of a huge chain of newspapers. Hearst had lots of reasons to help. First, he hated Mexicans. Second, he had invested heavily in the timber industry to support his newspaper chain and didn’t want to see the development of hemp paper in competition. Third, he had lost 800,000 acres of timberland to Pancho Villa, so he hated Mexicans. Fourth, telling lurid lies about Mexicans (and the devil marijuana weed causing violence) sold newspapers, making him rich.

Some samples from the San Francisco Examiner:

“Marihuana makes fiends of boys in thirty days — Hashish goads users to bloodlust.”

“By the tons it is coming into this country — the deadly, dreadful poison that racks and tears not only the body, but the very heart and soul of every human being who once becomes a slave to it in any of its cruel and devastating forms…. Marihuana is a short cut to the insane asylum. Smoke marihuana cigarettes for a month and what was once your brain will be nothing but a storehouse of horrid specters. Hasheesh makes a murderer who kills for the love of killing out of the mildest mannered man who ever laughed at the idea that any habit could ever get him….”

and some other nationwide columns being printed:

“Users of marijuana become STIMULATED as they inhale the drug and are LIKELY TO DO ANYTHING. Most crimes of violence in this section, especially in country districts are laid to users of that drug.”

“Was it marijuana, the new Mexican drug, that nerved the murderous arm of Clara Phillips when she hammered out her victim’s life in Los Angeles?… THREE-FOURTHS OF THE CRIMES of violence in this country today are committed by DOPE SLAVES — that is a matter of cold record.”

Hearst and Anslinger were then supported by Dupont chemical company and various pharmaceutical companies in the effort to outlaw cannabis. Dupont had patented nylon, and wanted hemp removed as competition. The pharmaceutical companies could neither identify nor standardize cannabis dosages, and besides, with cannabis, folks could grow their own medicine and not have to purchase it from large companies.

This all set the stage for…

The Marijuana Tax act of 1937.

After two years of secret planning, Anslinger brought his plan to Congress — complete with a scrapbook full of sensational Hearst editorials, stories of ax murderers who had supposedly smoked marijuana, and racial slurs.

It was a remarkably short set of hearings.

The one fly in Anslinger’s ointment was the appearance by Dr. William C. Woodward, Legislative Council of the American Medical Association.

Woodward started by slamming Harry Anslinger and the Bureau of Narcotics for distorting earlier AMA statements that had nothing to do with marijuana and making them appear to be AMA endorsement for Anslinger’s view.

He also reproached the legislature and the Bureau for using the term marijuana in the legislation and not publicizing it as a bill about cannabis or hemp. At this point, marijuana (or marihuana) was a sensationalist word used to refer to Mexicans smoking a drug and had not been connected in most people’s minds to the existing cannabis/hemp plant. Thus, many who had legitimate reasons to oppose the bill weren’t even aware of it.

Woodward went on to state that the AMA was opposed to the legislation and further questioned the approach of the hearings, coming close to outright accusation of misconduct by Anslinger and the committee:

“That there is a certain amount of narcotic addiction of an objectionable character no one will deny. The newspapers have called attention to it so prominently that there must be some grounds for [their] statements [even Woodward was partially taken in by Hearst's propaganda]. It has surprised me, however, that the facts on which these statements have been based have not been brought before this committee by competent primary evidence. We are referred to newspaper publications concerning the prevalence of marihuana addiction. We are told that the use of marihuana causes crime.

But yet no one has been produced from the Bureau of Prisons to show the number of prisoners who have been found addicted to the marihuana habit. An informed inquiry shows that the Bureau of Prisons has no evidence on that point.

You have been told that school children are great users of marihuana cigarettes. No one has been summoned from the Children’s Bureau to show the nature and extent of the habit, among children.

Inquiry of the Children’s Bureau shows that they have had no occasion to investigate it and know nothing particularly of it.

Inquiry of the Office of Education— and they certainly should know something of the prevalence of the habit among the school children of the country, if there is a prevalent habit— indicates that they have had no occasion to investigate and know nothing of it.

Moreover, there is in the Treasury Department itself, the Public Health Service, with its Division of Mental Hygiene. The Division of Mental Hygiene was, in the first place, the Division of Narcotics. It was converted into the Division of Mental Hygiene, I think, about 1930. That particular Bureau has control at the present time of the narcotics farms that were created about 1929 or 1930 and came into operation a few years later. No one has been summoned from that Bureau to give evidence on that point.

Informal inquiry by me indicates that they have had no record of any marihuana of Cannabis addicts who have ever been committed to those farms.

The bureau of Public Health Service has also a division of pharmacology. If you desire evidence as to the pharmacology of Cannabis, that obviously is the place where you can get direct and primary evidence, rather than the indirect hearsay evidence.”

Committee members then proceeded to attack Dr. Woodward, questioning his motives in opposing the legislation. Even the Chairman joined in:

The Chairman: If you want to advise us on legislation, you ought to come here with some constructive proposals, rather than criticism, rather than trying to throw obstacles in the way of something that the Federal Government is trying to do. It has not only an unselfish motive in this, but they have a serious responsibility.

Dr. Woodward: We cannot understand yet, Mr. Chairman, why this bill should have been prepared in secret for 2 years without any intimation, even, to the profession, that it was being prepared.

After some further bantering…

The Chairman: I would like to read a quotation from a recent editorial in the Washington Times:

The marihuana cigarette is one of the most insidious of all forms of dope, largely because of the failure of the public to understand its fatal qualities.

The Nation is almost defenseless against it, having no Federal laws to cope with it and virtually no organized campaign for combating it.

The result is tragic.

School children are the prey of peddlers who infest school neighborhoods.

High school boys and girls buy the destructive weed without knowledge of its capacity of harm, and conscienceless dealers sell it with impunity.

This is a national problem, and it must have national attention.

The fatal marihuana cigarette must be recognized as a deadly drug, and American children must be protected against it.That is a pretty severe indictment. They say it is a national question and that it requires effective legislation. Of course, in a general way, you have responded to all of these statements; but that indicates very clearly that it is an evil of such magnitude that it is recognized by the press of the country as such.

And that was basically it. Yellow journalism won over medical science.

The committee passed the legislation on. And on the floor of the house, the entire discussion was:

Member from upstate New York: “Mr. Speaker, what is this bill about?”

Speaker Rayburn: “I don’t know. It has something to do with a thing called marihuana. I think it’s a narcotic of some kind.”

“Mr. Speaker, does the American Medical Association support this bill?”

Member on the committee jumps up and says: “Their Doctor Wentworth[sic] came down here. They support this bill 100 percent.”

And on the basis of that lie, on August 2, 1937, marijuana became illegal at the federal level.

The entire coverage in the New York Times: “President Roosevelt signed today a bill to curb traffic in the narcotic, marihuana, through heavy taxes on transactions.”

Still don’t believe us?? Check this out…

The time is here! It’s finally legal to for us to get our medical marijuana cards and consume marijuana LEGALLY in Michigan! There are a few crucial things you need to know before getting your medical card. Ready? Lets get started…

This quick little article will help you understand how to become a legal marijuana user in the state of Michigan. If you’re not familiar with the marijuana laws that Michigan has passed through Proposal 1, check out The Laws section we have created to help you get adjusted better. Enough with the talking, let’s show you how to get your damn card already! Follow these 4 simple steps and you’re set!

Step 1: You must have one of these conditions: Cancer, glaucoma, positive status for human immunodeficiency virus, acquired immune deficiency syndrome, hepatitis C, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, Crohn’s disease, agitation of Alzheimer’s disease, or nail patella.

Don’t have any of these conditions?

Well, it’s ok… You can also get medical marijuana for:

A chronic or debilitating disease or medical condition or its treatment that produces 1 or more of the following: cachexia or wasting syndrome; severe and chronic pain; severe nausea; seizures, including but not limited to those characteristic of epilepsy; or severe and persistent muscle spasms, including but not limited to those characteristic of multiple sclerosis.

Got that? It pretty much means if you have any type of chronic pain or severe nausea, you may get medical marijuana.

Step 2: Get your doctor to agree that you need marijuana for medical purposes. Think of it kind of like how he writes you a prescription for some medication, but instead of a prescription, it’s just a recommendation for you to use medical marijuana. The reason why it’s classified as a “recommendation” and not a “prescription”, is because there is no pharmacy you can go to get medical marijuana. All your own medicational marijuana will be grown by you or a caregiver. When we say “recommendation”, we don’t specifically mean a written recommendation since you will have to just have your doctor fill out a form (in step 3). It pretty much means, by law, that your “physician’s professional opinion, is that the patient is likely to receive therapeutic or palliative benefit from the medical use of marihuana to treat or alleviate the patient’s debilitating medical condition or symptoms associated with the debilitating medical condition.” So if your doctor thinks that medical marijuana helps you deal with your chronic pain, severe nausea, or any other medical condition listed, continue to step 3.

Step 3: Print and Fill out the **Medical Marijuana Form**. It’s really simple and straight to the point. This is the ONLY part your doctor has to anything! After getting his verbal recommendation that you use marijuana for medicinal purposes, just bring your doctor this form and have him/her fill out a few lines in this form. Take a look below of what the form looks like…

Step 4: That’s it!!! Submit it to the Michigan Department of Community Health and you’re guaranteed to get your card within 15 days! (20 to be safe)
